The Holy Ghost (Spirit) in Action - Scene 9 - Acts 5:17-42

In this week's scripture, the Apostles new found "stardom" among the people, as a result of the Holy Ghost in Action, created jealously among the ruling elites in Jerusalem. Dr. Luke recorded that the high priest and all that were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), were filled with indignation (jealously), and proceeded to lay hands on the Apostles and put them in a public jail.

But, the angel of the Lord by night (the Spirit of God in Action) opened the prison doors, brought them forth and gave them a command to go into the temple and speak to the people all the words of life. This diabolical act of Satan to try to hinder the work of the Lord was stopped and the plan of God, working through His disciples gained traction among the ordinary people.

This moving of God through the Apostles further infuriated the high priest when he heard saw the same Apostles who were put in jail, were on the loose and they were preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This high priest hastily called a full gathering of the Sanhedrin Council and sent to the jail to bring the Apostles who he thought were still in jail. The officers who were sent to the prison reported that the prison was secure, but the jail was empty. They did not know that the Spirit of God took these Apostles out without breaking the doors or windows.

When the officers and the captain of the guards finally found these Apostles, they were brought before the Sanhedrin Council, the high priest asked them a question, "did not we straightly commanded you, that you should not teach in this name (Jesus)? And behold ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man (Jesus) blood upon us?".

The Apostle Peter's response to this question was one that still resonates through the ages, "We ought to obey God rather than men". "We are His witnesses and so is the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey Him". The scripture says that when the Council heard the Apostle Peter's response, "they were cut to the heart, and wanted to instantly kill the Apostles. But one of the council member, Gamaliel, warned them against the planned course of action, saying that the Gospel that was being preached by the Apostles would not last, unless God was with them. He was concerned that the council actions would be premature, because they could indeed be fighting against God.

The scriptures says that after the Apostles were beaten, they again were commanded not teach or preach in the name of Jesus and they were let go. These Apostles rejoiced that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for the name of Jesus and went back daily in the temple and house to house teaching and preaching Jesus Christ.

At Meadowvale East Apostolic Church we still teaching and preaching this same Jesus as the only medium for deliverance from sin. Visit us anytime to hear more about this wonderful gospel of Jesus Christ.

God Bless You,
