The Holy Ghost (Spirit) in Action - Scene 11 - Acts 6:8-15

Greetings! Once again the scene changes and we see the spirit of God in action upon a single individual, Stephen, one of the appointed Deacons, who had being given the responsibility of taking care of the daily needs of this growing and vibrant Apostolic church.

The scripture records that Stephen was full of faith and power, and did great wonders and miracles among the people as the spirit in action controlled his every movement. Stephen demonstrated one of the criteria for the Spirit of God to move in his life – Faith – in the power of God. The scripture declares plainly, that Faith is the basis of all man’s relations to God. Without Faith it impossible to please God, because he that cometh to God must first believe that He is God, and secondly, that He rewards them that diligently seek Him.

Thus, Stephen’s faith in God, allowed the spirit of God to demonstrate His power to all those who were in the sphere of his influence. The bible records in this text, that “there arose certain of the synagogue,” the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, “and of them of Cilicia and of Asia”, to dispute with Stephen concerning the operation of the spirit of God in action, but they could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke.

This spirit of God in action cannot be defeated by any other power, because this power is of God. The bible records that as a result of their inability to overcome the spirit of God in action, they opposed Stephen, by secretly persuading some men to say, “we heard Stephen speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God. ” This action by this group of leaders, who were defeated by the spirit of God working through Stephen, led to the stirring up the common people. They also resorted to political tricks, using the elders and teachers of the law to falsely accuse Stephen. They contrived charges and brought Stephen before the Sanhedrin council with the accusation, “this fellow never stops speaking against this holy place and against the law. For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs Moses handed down to us.”

Dr. Luke describes that while Stephen was before this Council that tried him on trumped-up charges, they of the council looked intently at Stephen, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel. This transformational power of the spirit of God in action did not cause Stephen’s demeanour to change for the worse, but rather, it enhanced his visage despite the false accusations.

This same spirit of God still has the ability to transform lives today, despite the adversity of the enemies that seek to hamper and inhibit the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

My friends, your lives can also be transformed by believing in the name of Jesus Christ and accepting Him as your personal saviour. Please visit us at Meadowvale East Apostolic Church at 1510 Warden Ave, Scarborough, Ontario, Canada.

God Bless You,

Pastor McGann
