The Holy Ghost (Spirit) in Action - Scene 16 - Acts 8:26 - 40 Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch

In one of the most dramatic scene in the book of Acts, Dr. Luke recorded an amazing work of the Spirit of God in action through the Evangelist Philip.

The spirit of God used an angel of the Lord to speak to Philip directly commanding him to get up and go toward a city called Gaza which was in a dessert place. The Bible says that Philip arose immediately and followed the direction of the Spirit and he saw a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians. This man was the Chancellor of the Treasury and he came to Jerusalem to worship and was on his way back to Ethiopia.

He was in his chariot and was reading from the book of Isaiah, chapter 53:7-8:
“He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth.”
The spirit of God in action directed Philip to join this man in his chariot. After reading the scripture, Philip asked the Eunuch if he understood what he read, to which he responded, “how can I, except someone guides me?” The Eunuch welcomed Philip to sit in his chariot with and he went on to ask Philip to tell him of whom Isaiah spoke.
The scripture says that Philip under the action of the Holy Spirit began at the same scripture that this Eunuch was reading and preached unto him Jesus.
This Jesus about whom Philip expounded, is the same Jesus that made known his power and presence through the Holy Ghost (Spirit of God in action). The scripture says that as both Philip and the Eunuch continued on their way, they came upon a certain water; and the Eunuch said, “here is water, what stops me from being baptized?” Philip response was the same message that Jesus gave in St. Mark 16:16 – He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved – and if thou believest with all thine heart, they mayest. The Eunuch responded, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God.”

Evangelist Philip did what all preachers do for any soul that cries out and have faith in Jesus Christ. He commanded the chariot to stand still and they both went down in the water and he baptized the Eunuch in the name of Jesus. The scripture says that after his baptism, the Eunuch went on his way rejoicing!!

My friends, this is how the Spirit of God in action operates. It reveals, it unfolds, and opens up the truth to sincere and hungry seekers, so that they will go on their way rejoicing for the freedom that the souls of men seek after. We invite you to worship with us at Meadowvale East Apostolic Church and experience this magnificent power of God in action.

God Bless You,

Pastor McGann
