The Holy Ghost (Spirit) in Action - Scene 26: Acts 12 : 1-5 - Peter's Miraculous Escape from Prison - Part 1

Greetings! As Dr. Luke continues the historical account of the early church during the period AD 33 - AD 60, we see for the first time the diabolical actions of Satan as he tried to oppose and destroy the move of God.

Satan used one of the most evil Kings of the Roman Empire, Herod, to "vex" certain of the church. This Herod killed James the brother of John with the sword, and as a result, James became the first martyr in this period for the name of Jesus Christ.

The scriptures say that this political action by King Herod pleased the unbelieving hierarchy of Jews, and being an opportunist, he proceeded further to take Apostle Peter during the days of the Feasts of Unleavened bread. Peter was apprehended and put in prison and was kept secure by four groups of soldiers, with the intention to keep him in prison until after the Easter holidays, when he would have a public trial.

Dr. Luke recorded in this chapter one of the most important "tool" in the arsenal of every God fearing believer; that is the "weapon of prayer". In verse 5,Dr. Luke says, "But prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for Peter."
Prayer is God’s medium for humanity to communicate with him for all our needs, in addition to being a vehicle for giving Him thanks for what He has done for us. The underlying message in this account was the consistency of prayer for Peter. The early church prayer was a non-stop venture, they prayed singularly, but they prayed much more in a unified manner unto God for Peter.

This same admonition is for the church today; pray, pray, pray. Pray at all times, pray standing, pray sitting, pray walking, pray driving – The Spirit and attitude of prayer must be our constant mantra – Our God hears and answers prayers – It is his will that men pray everywhere lifting up holy hands.
If you would like to know more about the power of prayer and hear great testimonies on what prayer has done for many of us, please contact us and we will be happy to pray with you.
