The Holy Ghost (Spirit) in Action - Scene 17 - Acts 9:1 - 16 Saul's Conversion

In our lesson today, we have high drama on the Jerusalem to Damascus highway. Dr. Luke records the conversion of Saul, one of the most strident opposer of the Apostolic doctrine in the year AD 33.

This man Saul was  from sect of the Pharisee, and was very learned in all aspects of Judaism. He led a campaign of vehement opposition to the disciples and converts since the day of Pentecost.

The scripture says that he breathed out threatening and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, and he went to the high priest and sought of him letters to the synagogues of Damascus, that if on his way to Jerusalem, he found any of the Jesus name folks, men or women, he would bring them bound to Jerusalem.

The Bible says, that as Saul journeyed, he came near Damascus; and suddenly there shined about him a light from heaven and he fell to the earth and heard a voice saying unto him, "Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?" This miraculous incident on the Damascus road was none other than the spirit of God in action.

The Holy Ghost which is God, saw the intensity of Brother Saul and his zeal for the things of God, but knew his zeal was without the full knowledge of who Jesus was, and is. He thought that by persecuting the Saints who accepted Jesus as their Saviour, he was doing God’s will.

He was ignorant of the plan of God to move in a new and living way in the dispensation of grace. Brother Saul did not get the revelation that Jesus Christ was God, and the Spirit of God was God in the human flesh for the purpose of human redemption, so he thought by persecuting the Jesus folks he would destroy them.

The scripture says, that this astounded Saul and while on the ground, asked this profound question, "who are thou Lord?" The response was immediate and succinct, "I am Jesus whom thou persecutest". Immediately, Brother Saul, responded in sincerity and humility and to the powerful and magnificent power of the Holy Ghost, "Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?"

Dear friends, this is how the Spirit of God in action operates. It not only convicts and chastises, but it also gives guidance to those who are willing to submit to the will of God.

We invite you to worship with us at Meadowvale East Apostolic Church and experience this magnificent power of God in action

God Bless You,
