The Holy Ghost (Spirit) in Action - Scene 18 - Acts 9:17 - 31 Saul in Damascus and Jerusalem
The Spirit of God was still in action in the life of Saul, the great blasphemer and opposer of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
If you recall in Scene 17, Saul, while on his way to Damascus for the sole purpose of persecuting those who called on the name of Jesus, had an experience with the Holy Ghost (the spirit of God in action), leading to, among other things the loss of his sight.
Then a certain disciple, Ananias, became convinced that the Lord would work through him to bring total conversion to Saul. The scripture says that Ananias went to the place where Saul was staying, put his hands on him and said, "Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hast sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight and be filled with the Holy Ghost.
Dr. Luke recorded in verse 18 of this text, that after Ananias’ declaration of liberty to Brother Saul, what appeared to be scales immediately fell from his eyes, and he was able to see again. After which he arose, and was baptized. Although the scriptures did not specify how Brother Saul was baptized, but because he was in the company of baptized believers, they would know the only medium of baptism, which is immersion in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.
The scriptures say that after Brother Paul received meat, since he was without food for three days after the Lord knocked him down on the Damascus road, he was strengthened and he stayed certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus.
The Spirit of God in action took control of Brother Saul, now renamed Brother Paul, and straightway he began to preach Christ, the Son of God in the synagogues. When the people heard Brother Paul preaching the name of Jesus Christ as the only name for salvation, the Bible says that they were amazed, and said, "Is not he that destroyed them that called upon the name of Jesus in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent that he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem unto the chief priests?" But the scripture says, Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that the message he now preached is that about Jesus Christ.
One again, we see the power of the Spirit of God in action, in its working and converting one of the most strident and vehement opposer of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The scripture says, that when he the spirit of truth is come, it will lead one into all truths. The Apostle Paul was a product of the spirit of God in action. In Acts 9:31, it says, "then had the churches rest throughout all Judea and Galilee, and Samaria, and were edified: and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.
