The Holy Ghost (Spirit) in Action - Scene 22 - Acts 10:9-23 - Apostle Peter's Vision
This week’s scripture in Acts 10: 9-23, illustrates once again the powerful working of the Spirit of God in action. Cornelius directed his servants to go and seek the Apostle Simon Peter who was in Joppa at the time. The servants journeyed to that city and arrived on the second day. As they were about to seek out the specific house where the Apostle Peter resided, Peter had this urge to go to prayer, and went to his housetop about midday. The scripture says that during prayer, Peter got very hungry and would have eaten, but the food was not ready, and he fell into a trance.
Dr. Luke records that during this state (Peter in a trance), the Spirit of God in action showed Peter a vision of a certain vessel, like a sheet knit at the four corners that was let down to the earth. This sheet contained all manner of four footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things and fowls of the air. In this vision a voice spoke to Peter saying, "Rise, Peter kill and eat". Peter responded three times, "Not so Lord, for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean". A voice then spoke again to Peter, "What God hath cleansed, that call not common or unclean".
The scripture says that while Peter doubted in himself, the meaning of this vision which he had received, behold the men sent from Cornelius’ house made an enquiry for Simon’s house and stood before the gate. These men from Cornelius called and asked whether "Simon, which was surnamed Peter" was staying there.
Dr. Luke records that while Peter thought about the vision, the spirit of God in action, said unto him, behold three men seek there, arise, get thee down, go with them, doubting nothing, for I have sent them.
The Apostle Peter went down to the men, and introduced himself. These men from Cornelius’ house related their mission and emphasized that their master was a just man, one that feared God, and has a good report among the nation of the Jews. They went on to say how God had warned Cornelius by a holy angel to send for him, Simon to hear his words.
The scripture says the Apostle Peter accepted what these men said, invited then in to stay for the night and made plans to go to see Cornelius with some of his Jewish brothers the following day.
This action by the Spirit of God once again illustrates the power of God, and how sensitive the believers of old were to the leading of the Lord. In today’s modern time, where technology is being touted as being the most needed commodity, we still must believe in and become reliant upon the Spirit of God to lead us and guide us in all truths.
We invite you to worship with us at Meadowvale East Apostolic Church and experience this wonderful power of God in Action.
God Bless You,
Pastor McGann
