The Holy Ghost (Spirit in Action - Scene 20 - Acts 9:36 - 43 - Peter Raises Dorcas

In our text this week, we see once again a demonstration of the Spirit of God in action, using the Apostle Peter to miraculously raise a dead woman in the city of Joppa.

The scripture says that this famous follower of Jesus, Tabitha (fondly known as Dorcas), was full of good works, but she became ill and died. The disciples heard that Peter was nearby in the city of Lydda and sent for him, to come urgently to Joppa. Apostle Peter arose immediately and went with the men who came to get him, to the home where Dorcas’ body laid; the widows were weeping, showing the coats which Dorcas made while she was alive.

Dr. Luke reported that when Apostle Peter saw this scene of weeping and lamenting, he put the folks who were grieving out of the room, and kneeled down, and prayed. Turning to the body of Dorcas he said, "Tabitha, arise!", Dorcas being awakened, opened her eyes, and saw Apostle Peter and sat up. Apostle Peter gave her his hand and he lifted her up and called the saints and widows, and presented her alive.  The spirit of God in action used the Apostle to perform an instant miracle of awakening the dead.

This instant miracle in Joppa was made known throughout region, and as a result many, many souls believed on the Lord Jesus Christ. This is one way in which, the Spirit of God in action operates. It uses men to glorify God and then leads them to develop complete and absolute trust in the God of all mankind. In Romans 15:4 (NIV) the Bible says, "For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the scriptures and the encouragement they provide, we might have hope.

The spirit of God in action is still the same as in the days of the early church in Ad 40. The saints and unbelievers can still have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and can still be delivered from all sicknesses and infirmities, and even death if the Lord wills it, so He can receive glory and praise for His mighty working among humanity.

We invite you to worship with us at Meadowvale East Apostolic Church and experience this wonderful power of God in Action.

God Bless You,
Pastor McGann
